Travel ritual: my jewellery
my favourite necklaces inside a wardrobe door using a belt hanger |
Good memories are lost jewels - Paul Valéry (Bad thoughts and others)
For work or on holiday
I did used to wear jewellery for work
But not anymore
- an Amazonite oval ring
- a twisted bangle
But not anymore
- have to clean/disinfect them when I got home (there are already a lot of stuffs to clean)
- don't love wearing a lot of jewellery because I don't like how it feels and they bother me
- avoid buying precious stones and metals because of
- of "blood diamond": the trade in precious metals and stones has been linked to illicit financial flows, corruption, smuggling, drug trafficking, illicit arms trafficking, and the financing of terrorism... (those beautiful diamonds may look pure but source them back to their origins and you’ll find a tortured reality glazed in blood, conflict and abuse
- any type of resource extraction is harmful to the planet
- the toxic chemicals used in the mining of precious metals are, of course, not only harmful to the environment but especially to the local workers
- they need to be cleaned carefully and regularly
When travelling,
I used to remove them before going through airport security, keep them in my handbag.
On the left hand
Used to worn them all in the left hand, the ring on the middle finger for practical reason.
Just discovered that the middle finger ring represents balance and structure. And wearing a ring on the middle finger of the left hand, in some cultures, it is believed signifies balance, stability, and responsibility. In other cultures, it is associated with creativity, self-expression, and intuition; can also symbolize balance and responsibility, often chosen by those who want to make a statement about their individuality.
And it's a happy coincidence because according to Tibetan beliefs, you must wear the bracelet on the left wrist to welcome positive energies; the left side is the receiving part of our body and soul which is the closest to our heart; therefore, it is the side which is intended to receive positive energies into the soul.
