Tang Yin's traditional paintings
T'ang Yin or Tang Yin, romanised (1470-1524), also known as Tang Bohu (courtesy name) was a Chinese painter, calligrapher, poet of the Ming dynasty period (1368-644) and one of the most famous painters in the history of Chinese art.
He came from a merchant family, excelled in his studies and was a pupil of the great Shen Zhou (1427-1509).
He was a bright scholar, wrongly accused of cheating in an exam. Unable to work for the government, he turned to poetry and art, and led him to earn a living selling his paintings. His life story has become a part of popular lore.
These 4 painters are known traditionally as the 4 Masters of the Ming Dynasty: Tang Yin, Wen Zhengming (1470-1559), Shen Zhou and Qiu Ying (1494-1551).
