My 3 favourite summer fruits

melon Charentais
the Charentais melon

Fruit is nature's candy

1st: Melon

available between July and September

Charentais: a gourmet Cantaloupe: bright orange and firm flesh, deliciously sweet and highly fragrant.  They are cultivated in the South East, the Centre-West including Charente and the South-West.  Despite its name, it does not originate from the Charente.  They are also sourced from Morocco, Spain and Italy.

Cavaillon: one of the best melons in the world, succulent, juicy and intensely fragrant, also with orange flesh; exclusively available in France and protected by an AOC (appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) which designates by law, unlike the Charentais.

Benefits
excellent source of vitamin A and C for healthy skin and for maintaining a healthy immune system; also rich in potassium for a healthy blood pressure, which reduces risk for heart disease and stroke.

2nd: Nectarine

available between June and September

I like it firm, crunchy with a balance of acid and sugar.

Benefits
has numerous nutrients: rich in fibre and vitamin C (that helps to protect cells against free radical damage), and also niacin, copper, potassium...

3rd: Mango

available all year round

I like it firm, dense, crunchy with a balance of acid and sugar.  My favourites are those from Southeast Asia.

Benefits
rich in vitamin A, lutein, and zeaxanthin (which are important for eye health), and in vitamine C; also rich content of vitamins and minerals including copper, calcium, iron, beta carotene...
mangoes from Cambodia
one of the varieties of mango in Cambodia (Kandal Province) in 2014
