My favourite apples

french organic apples: Choupette
Choupette, rustic organic apples

An apple a day keeps the doctor away - Anglo-Saxon proverb

Apples in general

I used to eating these apples:
  • Golden Delicious: wonderful apples, great for eating and baking
  • Gala: great to eat
  • Pink Lady: great to eat but...*
  • and sometimes Granny Smith (it is firm and crunchy a little bit too sour for me but great for salad)
* My favourite was Pink Lady for its texture and taste, perfect!  Except, I learnt that apples could be up to 27 layers of chemicals (pesticides, preservatives, toxic wax...), especially those that are sensitive to diseases like Pink Lady, and also, Goldend Delicious, Gala...

Rustic organic apples

Then, I have discovered the rustic French variety Choupette (also know as Dalinette) with an eco-friendly orchards label that guarantees fruits that are at the same time good and healthy.  It is a popular organic variety in France due to its resistance to diseases and fungi, produced in the Loire Valley and in the Alsace region.
They are available from December to August.

I also noticed that small fruits like vegetables taste better that the big ones.  So if I can't find the Choupettes, I buy those in a prepacked 2kg bag, they are small, crunchy and well balanced between sweet and sour, taste better than those big, beautiful and oddly shiny apples!
