The crazy sculptor 

Vincenzo Gemito (1852-1929), born in Naples, self-taught Italian artist, is known for portrait and figure drawing, sculpture, painting.
Commonly known in Naples as the crazy sculptor, he was the most important Italian sculptor of the late 19th century who introduced realism to Italian art.
Gemito was adopted by a young family who has lost a child. His father, a poor artisan apprenticed him to a sculptor in 1861.

In 2020, the Petit Palais, a museum of fine arts in Paris presented his work "Sculptor of the Napolitan soul" that has never been seen in France (in collaboration with the Museo di Capodimonte, Naples).

Personally and in general, I prefer drawing to painting.  Really impressed by the strong realism, especially in the features of the hair...
