Travel ritual: my bag for a 3 day road trip

my different bags for a 3 day road trip
small handbag, weekend bag, tote bag, foldable shopping bag, reusable grocery bag

A human being is so insignificant, at most, the contents of a suitcase - Isabel Kreitz

My big obsession: try not to get things dirty or otherwise, to be able to clean them easily.  Cleaning up is good, not getting dirty is better!

I choose washable items when possible:
  • smooth PU (vegan), easy to clean and disinfect
  • fabric or nylon bag, washable
  • suitcase with a smooth and shiny aspect: easy to wash even with soapy water if necessary
  • a suitcase protective cover (expandable fabric), also washable

My 3-day packing list,

  • not too far away from home (around 2-4 hours),
  • by car, more comfortable than public transport, I can bring more "stuff" there and back,
  • in Spring, Summer or Autumn
=> avoid hard shell suitcases; soft bags are better which are more flexible to store in the trunk

(natural, organic, eco-friendly, biodegradable, vegan and cruelty-free products)

In my handbag (tropical tote bag)

My mini handbag with a strap, for every occasion containing my essentials
  • 2 small purses: 1 for ID card and some banknotes and another to keep coins (it's a mini bucket bag, too small to keep my all in one purse)
  • smartphone + earphones
  • keys
  • sunglasses
  • mini kyu kyu bukuro bag: advil, doliprane, cocculine, adhesive plasters, mini travel sewing kit
  • hand sanitizer, tissues
Small reusable water bottle
Copy of my hotel reservation details + in my emails
My Kyu kyu bukuro bag (or Just in case bag)
Small cotton scarf, umbrella
Some snacks
Reusable foldable shopping bag and backpack (10L)
Mp3 + noise cancelling earphones
Phone charger
Disinfectant wipes, face masks

In my foldable shopping bag

Hat
Cotton scarf (useful to block the sun from car window)

In my weekend bag (green khaki satin gym bag)

Travel laundry bag or small several biodegradable bags

Toiletry bag (small fabric drawstring bucket bag)
  • mini facial soap, makeup remover wipes*, face mist
  • oil, moisturizer, eye cream, sun cream, healing balm (calendula & rosehip, soothing and moisturising)
  • shower gel, shampoo, body lotion
  • cotton swabs
* never use make-up wipes at home, only when travelling, for convenience

Small bag
toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss

Mini beauty bag
  • small wide tooth comb
  • translucent powder, eyeliner, blush sample, retractable makeup brush
  • nail clippers, nail file, tweezers
  • 1 tissue
  • 1 sanitary protection
Packing cube n° 1
  • 2 bras: 1 to wear (1 as a backup)
  • 3 black knickers
  • 2 white cotton vests (1 as a backup)
  • 1 pair of beige knee-high socks (just in case)
  • 1 pair of black socks (just in case)
  • 1 sundress as a dressing gown and nightshirt
  • 1 lightweight pareo used as a pareo, scarf, sarong, shawl, blanket... and easy to wash and dry fast!
Packing cube n° 2
  • 2 trousers: 1 to wear, 1 as a backup (white and beige or green khaki)
  • 1 white long sleeve t shirt
  • 1 cardigan (beige or green khaki)
  • 3 tunic tops
  • 1 gray sleeveless fleece
  • 1 green khaki windcheater (in my handbag if bad weather)
Packing n° 3: foldable shopping bag or worn out shower cap or biodegrable plastic bags
  • 3 pairs of shoes: 1 to wear (sandals)
  • 1 pair of fabric sneakers
  • 1 pair of flip flops for hotel/beach
Packing n° 4: triple zip fabric pencil case
  • chargers, power bank
With these suitcase organizers, it is really easier to pack, load and unload.

In the reusable grocery bag

  • 2 large thermos flasks with filted water*
  • 2 mini coca-cola original Taste bottles**
  • 1 knife, 1 tablespoon wrapped in a tea towel
  • 1 empty tupperware
  • 1 box of tissues
  • 1 kitchen roll
  • 1 roll of paper towels
  • snacks: fruits, cashews, almonds, candied ginger
  • a few bags of biodegradable vegetables (to store something bought, for waste food...)
* try to avoid mineral water as new study shows high levels of nanoplastics found inside; so I stop buying bottled water except if I have no choice;  2 international airports already banned plastic water bottles (San Francisco International Airport in 2019 and LAX in 2023)
