His family moved to the US to avoid the Nigerian Civil War. Known for his vibrant, large-scale, abstract paintings, he explores colour both in the figurative historical context and in the sociopolitical sense. Has received grants in 1994 from the Penny McCall Foundation , in 2001 from the Joan Mitchell Foundation , and in 2007 from the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation .
